New Joint Venture to Supply Jones Act Compliant Modular Jack-Up Systems in North America

A new joint venture, Poseidon Jackup, has been formed to provide modular self-elevating barge systems to the U.S. and Canadian marine construction markets. The venture is a strategic partnership between Combifloat Group, a Dutch company specializing in modular marine platforms, and Poseidon Barge, a U.S. manufacturer of sectional barges. The new entity is backed by Marine Equipment Solutions (MES), the parent company of Poseidon Barge.

The primary objective of Poseidon Jackup is to offer domestically manufactured, Jones Act compliant jack-up platforms, combining established European engineering with American manufacturing and operational support.

Technical Capabilities and Market Focus

Poseidon Jackup will leverage Combifloat’s decades of engineering experience in self-elevating platforms with Poseidon Barge’s ISO-certified manufacturing facilities and distribution network in the United States. This model ensures that the equipment is built, owned, and operated in compliance with the Jones Act, a critical requirement for federal and commercial marine projects in U.S. waters.

The venture’s flagship offering is the MES-C7 Self-Elevating Sectional Barge. These systems are designed to provide stable, elevated work platforms for complex marine operations. Key features include:

  • Modularity: Components are transportable by standard truck, allowing for efficient mobilization and assembly on-site.
  • Versatility: The platforms are engineered for use in a range of challenging conditions, including both inland waterways and coastal environments.
  • Applications: The jack-up systems are intended to support critical infrastructure projects such as bridge construction and repair, port and harbor maintenance, as well as projects in the energy and environmental sectors.

According to Jaap Jan Pietersen, CEO of Combifloat Group, the partnership aims to meet the growing demand for marine infrastructure and energy projects across North America. “This partnership combines Poseidon’s strong presence in North America with our proven expertise in modular jack-up and floating solutions,” he stated.
