On September 30, 2023, the United States Army Corps of Engineers awarded a 1.8 million euro contract to implement the selected Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) remediation method at the western end of Katterbach Airfield at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach.
The contract includes construction of a hydraulic containment system to reduce the spread of contaminated water and a cleanup facility where contaminated water will be pumped and treated. The contract also includes monitoring and operation of the facility and associated groundwater monitoring for a period of twelve months. The contract includes options to extend operation and monitoring for subsequent years.
The contract is funded directly through the Army Environmental Command's Compliance Cleanup Program and does not impact USAG Ansbach’s budget. The pre-construction meeting for this project will be held in October. This is also when construction timelines will be determined.
The U.S. Army is committed to being a good neighbor to our surrounding communities. USAG Ansbach will continue to share updates on this and future projects and measures that are in public interest in a transparent and timely manner.
